Thank you for your interest in our Alaskan Klee Kai. If you don’t already know much about the breed, I highly suggest some more research in order to affirm whether or not this breed is really the right one for you. You can find quite a bit of information on our website under the ‘Breed Info’ tab. The breed club (AKKAOA) also has additional information, and if you have any questions that can’t be found in the FAQ below then feel free to email us.

The Alaskan Klee Kai are a Northern breed so they are runners and CANNOT be trusted off leash. They are skittish with strangers so it takes a lot of socializing for them to be friendly and they may always remain somewhat cautious of strangers. They do become attached to their family and for that reason often develop separation anxiety.  This is not a dog that you can just leave at home and ignore, they like lots of interaction. They also tend to like to dig, some worse than others. Some of them talk or howl like huskies do and can be quite vocal at times. They shed big time a couple of times a year and little bits almost constantly through the year.  On the positive side, they love “their family” and have very unique personalities and are extremely smart. Be cautious, they are like potato chips and it’s hard to stop at one. You will see many families with 2 or more!!

We also suggest for any potential owner to really look into the breeder you’re buying from. That means asking questions. This is a companion you’ll have for many years to come. It’s important that it’s healthy and that you can maintain a good relationship with the breeder you buy from. Some great information, as to how to pick a breeder and what questions to ask, can be found here

If you feel this is the right breed for you, then we invite you to fill out our questionnaire. This is for the purpose of ascertaining whether or not we feel you would be a good home and what kind of puppy would fit your needs, as well as getting to know what kind of puppy you’re looking for.

To request a questionnaire, email us If you can’t find your question here, then feel free to email us.
Mikka Klee Kai FAQ
How do I get a puppy from you?

First, we ask that you research the breed prior to making any decisions. You can find quite a bit of information on the breed on our website, visiting the breed club (AKKAOA) can also give you additional information on the breed. Once you have determined that this is the breed for you, then you may fill out a questionnaire. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible to let you know that you’re approved, with additional information on upcoming litters.

How long will I have to wait for a puppy?

That really depends. Once I know your preferences, I can give you an estimate.  We don’t breed to supply the pet trade. Each breeding is in hopes of improving the breed, in the process we occasionally have some pet quality puppies available.

Do you have any puppies available at this time? Or soon?

We will post on the homepage as soon as we have any upcoming litters under “AVAILABLE”. In addition, if you have submitted an application, we will add you to our e-mail list in order to keep you updated.

Do you ship puppies out of state? Out of country?

Yes, we ship out of state, weather permitting. No, we don’t ship out of country. We prefer people to pick up puppies but we do ship when necessary.

Can we come visit the parents and puppies?

Let me know and we can work something out. I occasionally have people that have come to meet our dogs.

Are both parents on site?

Usually, but not all the time. Occasionally we do use outside stud services in which case no, the male would not be on site. However I only use studs that have been extensively health tested and titled and will have copies of the health certifications as well as plenty of pictures to supply if that is the case.
